Nightingale

Content design

Write Nightingale guidance that helps people make confident decisions.

Write for the task

Readers arrive with a question. Lead with the decision they need to make, use plain language, and link to the canonical implementation source when it helps them complete the task.

Keep facts with their owner

Do not copy lifecycle, platform support, or source links into authored guidance. Those facts belong to the registry and will be combined with this guidance at build time.

Write actionable guidance

Do

Use a short label that describes the action, such as Save changes.

Specific labels help people predict what happens next.

Do

Put the most important condition first.

Don't

Use vague labels such as Continue when the next action is known.

Vague labels force readers to infer the outcome.

Review before publishing

Check the guidance at 320 CSS pixels and at 200% zoom. Make sure meaning does not depend on color alone.
